Former Oregon QB Ty Thompson learns fate in Tulane QB battle

Former Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson is not expected to land the starting QB job for Tulane to open the season.
Reports began filtering out that the Green Wave will be rolling with redshirt freshman Darian Mensah in the season opener Thursday night. However, that is not necessarily the end of the QB battle at Tulane.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Mensah will start the game but 3 QBs are expected to see the field for the Green Wave. That includes Thompson who appeared in 17 career games for the Ducks.

Thompson was originally a 4-star recruit and top 50 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. The 247 Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 40 player in the cycle, but he was unable to carve out a major role with the Ducks.
Thompson spent time backing up Anthony Brown and Bo Nix while at Oregon, completing 42 of 66 passes in his career for 456 yards, 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He completed 77.4% of his passes in a reserve role last season, but Dan Lanning and his staff opted to bring in veteran Dillon Gabriel and former 5-star recruit Dante Moore for 2024.
A fresh start looked like it may benefit Thompson, and it sounds like there is still a chance to get more playing time at Tulane. But for now, he starts the season outside of the starting role.
