Sherrone Moore officially has his first win as the full-time head coach at Michigan. After leading the Wolverines in 4 games as an acting head coach, he can now claim his first full-time victory after taking down Fresno State 30-10.

That final score was aided by a couple of late touchdowns, one to Colston Loveland on offense and then an electric pick-6 by Will Johnson to officially ice the game. Those scoring plays make the final score a bit more bearable than the one-score affair it was for much of the evening.

That score also hides some of the overall factors that the Wolverines need to clean up on either side of the ball moving forward. However, nothing about the performance was lost on Moore.

At his postgame press conference, he was asked about which areas Michigan will try to improve before facing Texas in Week 2. Moore’s answer? Everything.

Moore’s point is that the Wolverines will strive for perfection in all areas, but they ultimately have a long way to go on both sides of the ball:

Michigan’s defense performed better than the offense with 2 interceptions and holding Fresno State to just 9 rushing yards. However, the Bulldogs did show an ability to move the ball through the air against the Wolverines, particularly when the pass rush did not get home.

Meanwhile, Michigan’s offense left a lot to be desired in a number of areas. If not for some star contributions from Colston Loveland and Kalel Mullings, it would have been a truly disastrous outing.

Even with those performances, it’s clear the offense needs to find a level of consistency — and a downfield passing attack — if Michigan wants to truly compete with the upper echelon teams. It just so happens one of those teams comes to town in Week 2 with Steve Sarkisian and Texas.

We’ll see if the Wolverines can make a big jump from Week 1 to Week 2 or if the issues from the season opener crop up again against the Longhorns.
