USC receiver Kyron Hudson delivered a catch-of-the-year candidate not even fully through the first full week of the college football season.

It happened during the USC-LSU game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. USC quarterback Miller Moss stepped back, scrambled in the pocket, and unleashed a pass downfield that was somehow caught one-handed by Kyron Hudson. He bobbled the ball as he was falling, but, after a video review, the play stood. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit joked that, because of the degree of difficulty, the officials should have given him the catch regardless.

Take a look at the incredible play below. Hudson somehow secures possession as he goes to the ground.

Here’s a still capture of the catch:

Caleb Williams had a shoutout for his former receiver, too:

It’s early, but Hudson, a redshirt junior, may have set the bar for a receiver this season. And a few plays later, the Trojans took a 7-0 lead after Woody Marks’ 2-yard touchdown run, the Mississippi State transfer’s first in a USC uniform.

A top-25 battle between No. 23 USC and No. 13 LSU is currently airing on ABC. Both teams are looking to start the season 1-0 and they both have hopes of being in the College Football Playoff’s 12-team field this winter.
