Dylan Raiola and Miller Moss produced some of the best performances throughout Week 1. Now, that quarterback duo is headlining the Big Ten’s weekly player awards.
Big Ten action is back and bigger than ever before! Across Week 1, a total of 18 B1G teams hit the field for season openers including 4 teams making their debuts in the B1G.
Here are the Week 1 B1G awards:
Offensive Player of the Week
- Miller Moss, QB, USC
Moss was efficient with the ball while completing 27-of-36 passes for 378 yards and a touchdown in the win over LSU. His touchdown came with 5:44 left in the game to give USC a lead, and Moss drove the offense on a 75-yard drive and game-winning touchdown in the final moments of the game.
Defensive Player of the Week
- Kevin Winston Jr., S, Penn State
Winston was everywhere for the Nittany Lions in the win over West Virginia, tying a career-high mark with 12 tackles (7 solo stops). Winston also forced the first fumble of his career and recorded 1 tackle for loss. He’s the first Penn State defender to win B1G Defensive POTW since September 2022 (Ji’Ayir Brown).
Special Teams Co-Players of the Week
- Mateen Bhaghani, K, UCLA
- Dominic Zvada, K, Michigan
Bhaghani was a perfect 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts in UCLA’s season opener. All 3 of his FGs came in the second half, including a game-winner with less than a minute remaining as the Bruins rallied past Hawaii.
Zvada drilled a pair of long-range field goals in the season opener with kicks from 53 and 55 yards. His 55-yard FG is the 6th-longest in Wolverine history, and Zvada once delivered 9 straight points for Michigan in the season opener.
Freshman of the Week
- Dylan Raiola, QB, Nebraska
Raiola became just the 2nd true freshman to start a season opener for Nebraska since WWII (Adrian Martinez in 2018). He was impressively efficient while completing 19-of-27 passes for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns, including 192 yards before halftime. Raiola delivered touchdowns on 5 of the 8 drives he led and guided the offense to 23 points in the 2nd quarter alone.
