Jake Ferguson’s season started very painfully on Sunday in the Dallas Cowboys’ victory over the Cleveland Browns. But at least the former Wisconsin star’s season isn’t over.

Tests on Monday revealed an MCL sprain for the Cowboys tight end, meaning he’ll miss some time but that he should be able to return at some point this season.

Ferguson had 3 catches for 15 yards before getting injured in Dallas’ eventual 33-17 road victory over Cleveland.

The initial word on Sunday when the injury happened was that the 3rd-year tight end had avoided a major knee injury that would potentially take him out for the season, and fortunately for the Cowboys the testing on Monday has backed that up.

Ferguson’s pro career started slowly in 2022 after being selected in the 4th round of the draft, as he only had 19 catches for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns. But in 2023, Ferguson exploded as an NFL tight end, piling up 71 catches for 761 yards and 5 TDs. Those numbers earned Ferguson a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Ferguson developed into a standout at Wisconsin, earning 1st-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2021. Ferguson had 145 career catches as a Badger for 1,618 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a senior, Ferguson broke Lee Evans’ school record for consecutive games with a reception.
