Davis Warren struggles for Michigan in first half against Arkansas State

Davis Warren threw 2 incompletions in the first half against Arkansas State on Saturday.

Both of them were technically completions, they just went to the other team. Michigan’s defense rose up and only yielded 3 points off those 2 turnovers, but Michigan was expected to handle Arkansas State. A poor performance from the quarterback spot had fans groaning despite a 21-3 lead at the break.

Warren’s first interception of the game was a poor decision. Faced with pressure, he threw a ball up for grabs off his back foot and the attempt was undercut.

The second interception was just a poor throw.

Warren entered the Week 3 matchup with Arkansas State as one of the lowest-rated quarterbacks in the Big Ten. Among qualified passers, Warren’s 39.9 QBR ranked 14th. He threw 2 interceptions in last week’s drubbing by Texas and had an interception in the opener against Fresno State.

He won a high-profile offseason quarterback competition over Alex Orji, emerging as an unlikely leader of the reigning national champions. Warren was an unranked recruit and joined the program as a preferred walk-on in 2021. Over his first 3 seasons, he threw just 14 pass attempts.

But the year is off to a rough start. Warren is averaging just 6.3 yards per pass attempt with 5 turnovers. Fans voiced their frustration with the throw game throughout the first half.
