Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore announced Monday that Alex Orji will be getting the start over Davis Warren, who started for the Wolverines in Weeks 1-3. Orji will lead No. 18 Michigan against No. 11 USC this Saturday in what could be one of the top games on the Big Ten calendar.
Warren is an excellent story, but he struggled heavily under center for Michigan. He’s thrown for 444 yards, 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions through his first 3 games this season, leading Michigan to wins that were closer than they needed to be against Fresno State and Arkansas State.

This should not come as a shock to anyone. Many expected Orji to win the starting job entering the season and were surprised to see Warren come away with the honor.
Orji came in and played well against Arkansas State following Warren’s benching, totaling 27 yards on the ground and 12 passing yards with a touchdown (4 attempts). His dual-threat nature fits this offense better, but time will tell if he’s the one to put Michigan in the race for the CFP. Win this week and that race is officially on.
Moore noted that Orji has studied his tail off since Saturday’s game, too.
