Ryan Day did not provide a firm status for Tyleik Williams entering Week 5 after missing the game vs. Marshall. However, there is a potential bright spot for Williams’ outlook to face Michigan State.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Day said that Williams is “day-to-day” with an ailment though the specific matter was not revealed. “We’ll see how it goes,” said Day while defensive coordinator Jim Knowles reiterated the team is “hopeful” about Williams being able to play.

Williams is certainly a difference-maker who can wreck the offensive plans of the opposition. He is currently tied for the lead on the Buckeyes with 1.5 sacks from his interior DL position to go with 9 tackles and 2 TFLs.

As for the rest of the interior group in Williams’ absence, Day admitted the group had some positive moments but has a need to find consistency after the Marshall game. In the meantime, Williams’ injury does provide a chance to work on the depth of the DL group.

“When you watch the film, there was good play but there needs to be more consistent play. There’s a lot to learn there and there’s a lot to grown from and this is an opportunity to build depth in that room,” Day described. “When Tyleik is out there he certainly makes his presence felt… A good challenge for those guys, and everyone in that room would tell you there were some good plays but needs to be more consistency.”
