Chris Ash’s reaction to the Urban Meyer situation at Ohio State was one of the Big Ten community’s more anticipated responses.

Ash, of course, is a Meyer assistant turned Big Ten East foe. For the 2014 national championship season and the 2015 season, now at the center of Meyer’s suspension, Ash served as co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach. He became the head coach at Rutgers after the 2015 season.

It came as no surprise that after the Scarlet Knights’ first fall practice, the media wanted Ash’s response to the situation at Ohio State.

“I’ve followed it obviously. I’d start by saying, we take any type of abuse whether it be versus a female, a male, domestic abuse or not very seriously,” Ash told reporters after the his team’s first fall practice. “We have a lot of sympathy for victims in those situations. I can’t tell you who knew what, who knew what when, any of that type of stuff. I know I was there and that’s about all I can tell you. They’ll go through an investigation. Obviously you guys know how I feel about Coach Meyer and his family, but it’s a very serious situation and one that I’m sure all parties will take very seriously.”

In the video below, Ash also talks about how he uses it as a teachable moment with his own coaching staff.
