Jeremiah Smith, Abdul Carter headline individual Week 5 B1G honors

Jeremiah Smith and Abdul Carter both delivered major performances in Week 5 victories for their programs. Now, the two players are headlining the Big Ten’s individual honors for the weekend.
On Monday, the B1G unveiled a total of 5 players to receive Player of the Week recognition. That includes 2 players splitting the offensive honors and 4 different programs represented.
Here are the full recipients:
Co-Offensive Players of the Week
- Kalel Mullings, Michigan RB
- Tez Johnson, Oregon WR
Mullings carried the ball a career-high 24 times for 111 yards in Michigan’s narrow win over Minnesota with 2 touchdowns. It is Mullings’ 3rd straight game with 100+ yards and 2+ touchdowns for the Wolverines.
Johnson was the headline in Oregon’s big win over UCLA with 11 catches for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. He finished the game with 21 yards on punt returns and produced a season-long 52-yard touchdown in the game. Johnson is the first player in Oregon history with 5 career games of 11+ receptions.
Defensive Player of the Week
- Abdul Carter, Penn State LB
Carter was everywhere during Penn State’s 21-7 win over Illinois with 7 tackles, 4 TFLs and 2 sacks. That is a new career-high for TFLs in a game while Carter also produced a forced fumble in the win.
Special Teams Player of the Week
- Dominic Zvada, Michigan K
Zvada added 2 field goals and converted all 5 of his kicks in Michigan’s hard-fought win over Minnesota. He has started the season 4-for-4 on field goals from 50+ yards with his 53-yarder on Saturday, and Zvada is the first player in program history with 4 FGs of 50+ yards in a single season.
Freshman of the Week
- Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State WR
Smith recorded his 2nd game of 2 touchdowns in his freshman season, including his first career rushing touchdown vs. Michigan State. He ended Week 5 with 102 all-purpose yards and a pair of highlight-reel grabs in the 2nd quarter for Ohio State. It is the first B1G individual honor for Smith’s career.
