Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans didn’t get the outcome they were after on Saturday, falling 24-17 to the Minnesota Gophers.

While USC has lost two games this season, the other coming in the form of a 27-24 fall to the Michigan Wolverines on Sept. 21, Riley sees his team as being just 2 plays away from holding an undefeated 5-0 record.

“Came down to just inches, right there at the end,” Riley said after the loss to Minnesota. “We’ve had a couple of those. And that’s the frustrating thing for our team right now. I mean, we’re 2 plays away from probably being 5-0.”

USC held strong in parts of the game, but was unable to overcome some self-inflicted mistakes and head-scratching decisions that may have ultimately cost the Trojans the game.

But what it really came down to was completely falling apart on Minnesota’s last drive when it mattered the most. USC stopped Minnesota at the goal line three times, but quarterback Max Brosmer broke the plane just enough to give the Gophers the lead on the fourth try.

Despite the loss, Riley and the Trojans are ready to get back to business.

“Shoot, we’re ready to go,” Riley said in his postgame press conference. “We’re ready to go start preparing right now. So we’re going to prepare like crazy, have a great week of practice, Coliseum is going to be rocking, we’re going to be excited as hell to play. That’s what we do.”
