North Carolina athletics has attracted more negative media attention this week, this time on the football field.

Monday, North Carolina announced that 13 football players will serve suspensions for selling Jumpman Nike gear in exchange for money. According to Sports Illustrated, some of the monetary totals reached $2,500.

Jumpman, of course, is the popular Mike Jordan division of Nike.

Nine players will serve four-game suspension, two players will miss two games and two more players will sit out one game of the 2018 season.

The players serving four-game suspensions are OL Brian Anderson, DE Malik Carney, WR Beau Corrales, DE Tomon Fox, DE Tyrone Hopper, OL Quiron Johnson, LB Malik Robinson, QB Chazz Surratt and OL Jordan Tucker.

Defensive backs Greg Ross and Tre Shaw will miss two games and QB Jack Davidson and OL Jonah Melton will serve one-game suspensions.  The NCAA is allowing the Tar Heels to stagger the suspensions as to not hinder the team’s depth.

North Carolina self-reported the allegations to the NCAA in January.

Below is the statement from North Carolina.
