Will Howard had a method to his madness when he decided to transfer after 4 seasons at Kansas State. Yeah, it was nice at K-State. But it wasn’t Ohio State, where Howard decided to transfer for his senior season.
When Howard made that crucial, grueling personal decision in early January, he was betting on himself and he was betting on Ohio State. Howard figured that a move to Columbus would mean he’d be playing in a lot of big games in 2024. You know, like the colossal one on Saturday night at Oregon.
“When you come to a place like Ohio State, you want to play on the biggest stage,” said Howard during Tuesday’s weekly press conference. “College GameDay, all the hype, two vs. three matchup. This is what you sign up for, and this is what I was looking forward to.”
Howard and the 2nd-ranked Buckeyes will kick things off with the 3rd-ranked Ducks at around 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 pm PT) on NBC.
“It’s a challenge. It’s fun,” said Howard. “This is what college football is all about. This is what you dream about as a kid. Playing on this type of stage and in front of people and a ton of people watching on TV. It’s a dream, and it’s definitely a big reason why I came here.”
Howard is also trying to build his stock for the NFL Draft in his final collegiate season, and he’s coming off his best performance yet with a 5-touchdown outing vs. Iowa. It was also an especially impressive passing performance against a tough Hawkeye secondary as Howard completed 21-of-25 passes.
Now, Howard will get another chance to show what he can do against one of the best defenses he’ll face all season. A strong showing against Oregon could keep the Buckeyes in control of their B1G and CFP destinies down the road.
