Athletic trainer Rod Walters will lead an independent investigation into the death of Maryland player Jordan McNair who collapsed during practice. We now have the date for the completion of the investigation, Sept. 15, thanks to a new CBS Sports report.

McNair died June 13 after collapsing during a May 29 practice. McNair’s family said his death was due to heatstroke. He was 19.

Walters’ investigation will reportedly look into Maryland’s policies in regards to treatment protocols, emergency action plans, weather plans, heat illness, Sickle Cell Trait, psychological disorders and physician access. It will also include a look into procedures and protocols “involving student-athlete health and safety.” This includes how Maryland responds to health emergencies during and/or after practice.

CBS Sports obtained the above details of the investigation through a Freedom of Information Act request.
