NBC apparently forgot what Oregon head coach Dan Lanning looks like.

During pregame coverage of Oregon-Ohio State on the network, analyst Nicole Auerbach was discussing Oregon coach Dan Lanning and the impact he has had during his short time in Eugene, with a graphic displaying his current record as head coach of the program. A camera shot then showed a member of the Oregon staff walking on the field.

There was only one problem: as you can see below, it wasn’t Lanning at all:

To Auerbach’s credit, it wasn’t her fault. It’s fair to assume, though, that whoever the camera director was believed that the staff member wearing the hat was Oregon’s head coach. If anything, the fact that the staffer didn’t have Lanning’s facial hair should have been a dead giveaway.

Here’s hoping NBC’s crew can get things ironed out during the game. Oregon and Ohio State is set to be one of the biggest games of the season: both teams brought undefeated, 5-0 records into the contest, with the winner moving to 3-0 in the Big Ten and in a tie for first place in the conference with Indiana. It’s just the 11th meeting between the two teams on the gridiron and the first since 2021.
