Will Howard addressed the media after Ohio State’s 32-31 loss to Oregon in Eugene, disappointed in the outcome but unwavering in his confidence that the team will bounce back coming out of their open week.

“I hope it lights a little fire under us, man, because I still got all the belief in the world in this team,” Howard said, moments after the Buckeyes fell to 5-1. “This is a good football team. I don’t think they necessarily beat us. I think we beat ourselves a little bit.”

The main talking point was the Buckeyes’ final play of the night. With 6 seconds left and the Buckeyes at the Ducks’ 38, Howard pump-faked a throw and took off running, sliding down with no time remaining on the clock and no time for the visitors to call a last-gasp time out.

“I worried about trying to get enough yards to make the field goal and get us in the field goal range,” Howard responded when asked what happened. “But we gotta go back and look at it and figure out what we did wrong there. I got to get down, I guess, and … we gotta learn from it.”

Ohio State hosts Nebraska at Ohio Stadium on Oct. 26 on the other side of the open week.
