Curt Cignetti has won everywhere he’s been, and he was hell-bent on continuing that winning trend when he arrived at Indiana at the end of last season.

The 63-year-old Pittsburgh native didn’t want to hear anything about how you can’t win football games in Bloomington. Halfway through his 1st season at Indiana, everybody is listening to Cignetti and nobody is denying that Cignetti could be the long-awaited answer in turning Hoosiers football into a perennial winner.

On Saturday afternoon, with the nation watching on the FOX Big Noon slot, Cignetti’s 16th-ranked Hoosiers did it again and did it in remarkably impressive fashion. Indiana took apart a Nebraska team that rolled into Bloomington with a 5-1 record, pounding the Cornhuskers, 56-7, to improve to 7-0 and continue its run as one of college football’s darlings of 2024.

Cignetti spoke loudly and proudly to FOX’s Jenny Taft after the win, labeling it a dominant effort:

“To me, it’s not about staying undefeated. It’s about getting it done on the field today,” said Cignetti. “We played with great energy and took it to them, it was a dominant win. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s a great win at home.”

As for his viral moments throughout the offseason, Cignetti revealed he has respect for the Big Ten power programs but mentioned a need to create a different mindset about Indiana football right when he arrived.

“I didn’t like my first day here, how gloomy everything was about football, so I had to set an expectation level and create some excitement,” said Cignetti.

Well, consider that done.

Indiana rolled up 495 total yards and forced 5 Nebraska turnovers in Saturday’s victory, showing its prowess on both sides of the football.

The Hoosiers will go for 8-0 next Saturday at home against Washington.
