Wisconsin is a step closer to bowl eligibility with a 23-3 win over Northwestern in Evanston on Saturday.

The Badgers weren’t really challenged in this one: they outgained the Wildcats 359-209 as Northwestern QB Jack Lausch threw for just 82 yards on 9-of-24 passing despite 10 carries for 55 yards. Luke Fickell’s team is now 5-2 and 3-1 in the Big Ten.

Of course, the Wildcats are playing at a temporary stadium while a newly-reimagined Ryan Field is being built from the ground up, with the stadium literally on the shores of Lake Michigan. Wisconsin strength coach Brady Collins was well aware of that fact coming in, and promised his team that he’d jump into the lake if the Badgers beat the Wildcats.

Well, the Badgers did their part, and Collins did his. Take a look:

For perspective, game time temperature in Evanston was a gorgeous 72 degrees. The lake temperature? While it wasn’t freezing cold, let’s just say it’s not exactly ideal for a comfortable swim.

Regardless, good on Collins for keeping his word. Although, he’s probably happy the game against Northwestern took place in October and not late November. It’s likely he’d be a little more hesitant to get into the water.

Wisconsin, meanwhile, returns home to face Penn State.
