Michigan star cornerback Will Johnson is expected to be out of the lineup on Saturday night as the Wolverines battle rival Michigan State.

That’s according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who reports that Johnson is dealing with an injury. However, in a bit good good news, Zenitz also reports that left tackle Myles Hinton “looks likely to play” after he was out for a couple games with an injury.

Johnson would be a tremendous loss for Michigan if he indeed is out of the lineup. He’s widely regarded as one of the very best cornerbacks in the country and is expected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

So far this season, Johnson has recorded 14 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions and 3 pass deflections. Both of his interceptions so far this season have been returned for touchdowns.

Michigan State does not have an overly-efficient passing offense, so it’s possible his absence won’t hurt the Wolverines too much in this game. The Spartans rank 14th in the Big Ten in passer efficiency rating. Quarterback Aidan Chiles has been inconsistent to begin his first year as a starter at the collegiate level. He has a Big Ten-worth 9 interceptions so far in 2024.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
