CJ Stroud is in his second season with the Houston Texans, but he has already made his mark on the team’s record books.
The Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts 23-20 on Sunday to improve to 6-2 on the season. Stroud was sharp in this one, going 25-of-37 for 285 yards while throwing a touchdown and 0 interception.
Stroud’s 285 yards was enough to put him into the top 5 in franchise history in career passing yards. He now has 6,056 yards, just 177 yards behind Davis Mills for 4th overall.
To put it into perspective, Matt Schaub is the franchise’s all-time leading passer with 23,221, so Stroud clearly has a long way to go before getting to that point. Deshaun Watson threw for 14,539 yards while with the Texans, while David Carr put up 13,391 yards in 5 seasons.
Meanwhile, the Texans improved to 4-0 this season at NRG Stadium, taking a 2-game lead over the Colts in the AFC South while avoiding a 2-game losing streak.
Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions as a rookie in 2023 after being taken second overall in the NFL Draft. The Texans went 10-7 and finished first in the AFC South, beating the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card round before a loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
