Big Ten officials roasted for questionable first half in Ohio State-Penn State game

Big Ten officials are catching heat once again, and it’s yet another game involving Ohio State.
Last week, the officiating became a major story in the game between Ohio State and Nebraska, a close call that resulted in a narrow escape by the Buckeyes. This week, the stakes are much higher in the Ohio State vs. Penn State affair, but the officiating has produced some crucial calls in favor of OSU.
The major call that left a number of fans and media flummoxed came in the second quarter after a third-down stop by Penn State’s defense. A Nittany Lion defender was flagged for taunting simply for stepping over an Ohio State player after the crucial tackle.
According to FOX’s broadcast booth, it was the correct call, but it still left many scratching their heads. FOX had already said officials were intent on letting the two teams play, and it was certainly perceived to be a weaker call.
Officials also ruled a touchdown for Will Howard on a play that was in reality a clear fumble before he ever reached the goal line. A replay review did overturn that call, but it is far from a clean half for the officials with many roasting the group on social media.
Here’s a look at how fans and media alike have addressed the officiating:
It’s one thing to blatantly taunt … but it’s another thing to get up and maybe take one step that might be considered disrespectful.

They said earlier in the broadcast the officiating crew told them they wanted to “let them play,” but still gotta protect feelings. https://t.co/2oBpetr1pU

Ok. Then fix is in here. I’m out. I can’t stand another year of Big Ten officials carrying Ohio State past Penn State. They don’t need the assistance pic.twitter.com/o6P97RtB3U

Big ten officials in the bag for Ohio state. Questionable calls last week, missed calls vs penn state. When the officials tell the commentators they are going to let them play. Instead of call the game by the rules. That is blatant cheating! @bigten @psufootball @FOXSports

This was called taunting…
I mean, maybe it is, but this happens 8 times a game in every game, and is never called. Yikes. pic.twitter.com/O6i2rdaAId
