Penn State had all the ingredients on Saturday afternoon for a record crowd at Beaver Stadium, and a record crowd is exactly what the Nittany Lions got. A staggering 111,030 fans packed the stadium for the titanic showdown against Ohio State.

Penn State’s former attendance record was set in 2018, also not surprisingly for a showdown with Ohio State. Saturday’s mammoth crowd put the Nittany Lions on pace to break their single-season attendance record for a 7-game home schedule.

Penn State has hosted 544,375 fans through just 5 home games, an average of 108,875 per contest. Still to come in 2024 are home games against Washington next Saturday and against Maryland in the regular-season finale on Nov. 30.

The Nittany Lions came into Saturday ranked 3rd, with College Football Playoff aspirations firmly intact, and they were facing the 4th-ranked Buckeyes, a longtime Big Ten rival with similar national title hopes. So, all the stars were aligned for a record crowd for the noon ET kickoff on FOX.

Penn State set its single-season record for average attendance in 2007 with 108,917 fans per game. Just last season, Penn State recorded 3 crowds above 110,000 fans for the first time in program history.

According to Penn State Athletics, Beaver Stadium attendance figures include those in the “press box, suites, bands, ushers and other stadium personnel.”

Beaver Stadium’s capacity is 106,572, making it the nation’s second-largest stadium.
