Jeremiah Smith’s freshman season only continues to get better by the day. Smith most recently broke Cris Carter’s Ohio State freshman record for receptions with his 42nd catch of the season during Saturday’s matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers.
This comes just one week after Smith surpassed Carter’s freshman mark for receiving yards against Penn State. The No. 1 overall prospect from the 2024 recruiting class immediately stepped into a key role with the offense and has delivered big-time numbers.
He came into the contest at second in the category of receptions (39), leading in receiving yards (678) and tied with Carter for the lead in touchdowns (8). Smith has also done some light work on the ground with 33 rushing yards and one score on a pair of carries.
The future is bright for Smith, who many have already dubbed to be a generational talent. It is, of course, only his first season playing college football, but he certainly looks the part.
Here’s a look at Smith’s latest play that broke Carter’s single-season freshman mark of receiving touchdowns, giving the WR 9 on the season:

Ohio State currently leads Purdue, 21-0 at the half in what looks like will be absolute domination by the Buckeyes through all four quarters. To this point in the game, Smith has recorded 6 receptions for 87 yards with 1 touchdown. He is averaging 14.5 yards per catch.
He far and away leads the team’s effort through the air at the halfway mark against the Boilermakers.
