Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes will look to move to 9-1 on the season Saturday as they travel to Wrigley Field to take on Northwestern.  The Buckeyes have had many players who are having standout seasons, but their players aren’t receiving a ton of talk when it comes to the Heisman Trophy race.

Day was asked about this lack of respect for his players, but said the award often comes down to statistics as opposed to looking at the most outstanding player in the country.

“When I think about the Heisman, I think about the most outstanding player in college football, and I think sometimes it can come down to statistics, which is unfortunate,” Day said. “But that is what it is, and I know that our team, we’ve had Heisman finalists before. This team is worried about winning, and that’s really the only thing they’re worried about right now.”

Quarterback Will Howard is having a very good season in his lone year in Columbus, as he has thrown for 2,237 yards, 22 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. However, Howard’s candidacy has lagged behind other QBs on contending teams, such as Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Miami’s Cam Ward.

The Buckeyes have skilled players such as Quinshon Judkins, TreVeyon Henderson, Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. All 4 of those players could be the No. 1 options at nearly any school in the country.

As Day said, the Buckeyes are playing for more than individual statistics as they are getting ready for what they hope is a long run in the College Football Playoff.
