Carnell Tate was born in Chicago, so even though he was technically part of the visiting team on Saturday afternoon, the sophomore wide receiver felt right at home at Wrigley Field.

And boy did the Northwestern secondary notice.

Tate returned to the Windy City and helped No. 2 Ohio State race out to a 28-7 lead early in the 3rd quarter with his 2nd touchdown catch of the day, an 8-yard TD grab from Will Howard with 12:11 left in the 3rd.

Tate’s 1st touchdown catch of the day came on a 25-yard grab from Howard with 47 seconds left in the first half, so the Chicago kid’s TD grabs were sandwiched around halftime and helped the Buckeyes finally gain some cushion against the pesky Wildcats.

Tate had 4 catches for 52 yards following that 2nd touchdown grab, as he and freshman Jeremiah Smith were busy shredding Northwestern’s defensive backfield. Tate matched his season total for touchdowns coming into Saturday, as he came into the game with 2 TD grabs to go with 27 catches for 405 yards.

It was probably no coincidence though that playing at historic Wrigley was having an effect on Tate, as he was busy putting on a show in his Chicago homecoming with still over a quarter left to add to his numbers.
