Purdue was down 14-0 to No. 4 Penn State midway through the 2nd quarter when it thought it scored a touchdown that was going to get the Boilermakers back in the game in front of the home crowd on national TV.

Hudson Card’s pass was caught by De’Nylon Morrissette in the back-left corner of the end zone for what looked like a sure touchdown, with Morrissette being wide open.

Except when he caught it and looked down at his feet, they were both out of bounds, producing hilarious reactions from both Morrissette and from Penn State cornerback AJ Harris, who had a look on his face as if to say, “that’s right, no touchdown to celebrate.”

Purdue’s confusing end zone design certainly did Morrissette no favors as he attempted to find the back-left corner. Here’s video of the amusing moment in West Lafayette:

After all that hysteria and hysterical reactions, mostly from Penn State fans, of course, Purdue had to settle for Ben Freehill’s 22-yard field goal, which was its only points of the half as the Nittany Lions led, 21-3, in West Lafayette.

Back to the play and Morrissette, who looked so sure that he had scored a touchdown by the way he was positioning his feet on the catch. But to no avail, as he looked up and saw the pylon was in front of him and not behind him, like it’s supposed to be.
