Firings for head coaches don’t usually start until right after the regular season ends in late November or early December. Call it college football’s version of the NFL’s Black Monday, when pro head coaches get the ax after that final Sunday in January.

But if a majority (or all) of Purdue’s fans had their way, Boilermakers head coach Ryan Walters wouldn’t be around to see his team’s final 2 games against Michigan State and Indiana. Purdue was playing its final home game of the season on Saturday against No. 4 Penn State, and not surprisingly it wasn’t going well at all, and the home fans in West Lafayette were letting Walters have it.

They all wished Purdue’s final home game was the last time they had to see Walters patrolling the sideline at Ross-Ade Stadium. An overtime loss at Illinois last month and another overtime defeat at home against Northwestern earlier this month were the only games since that season-opening win that Purdue has come close to winning, and on Saturday the home fans let Walters have it like never before since, well, this would be the last time he’d have a chance to hear it from the home fans this season.

Most Purdue fans hope he wouldn’t be back to hear more boos in 2025. Here’s just a sampling of the anti-Walters sentiment:
