Purdue lost a commitment from its 2019 recruiting class on Tuesday, as a skilled athlete out of North Carolina announced his decision to decommit from the University.

Demetrius Mauney, a 3-star athlete from North Carolina, confirmed that he’ll be decommitting from Purdue and will re-open his recruitment.  He cited health and distance issues for his decision.

Mauney made the announcement via Twitter.

“After talking it over with my family, due to health issues and distance situations, I ask that my decision be respected that I will be decommitting from Purdue University and reopening my recruitment process,” Mauney said in a tweet.

Mauney initially committed to Purdue in June, choosing the Boilermakers over 10 other schools. He holds offers fromNorth Carolina, NC State, Tennessee and Colorado State, as well as other FCS schools.

The decommitment drops Purdue down to 20 prospects in its 2019 class, which ranks fifth in the B1G and 23rd nationally.
