Tom Osborne coached Scott Frost at Nebraska back in the 1990s, so it’s not surprising that the Cornhusker legend is giving his full support to his ex-quarterback.

Osborne has been in Frost’s corner for a long time now, even traveling to Orlando to speak at a football event at UCF when Frost was the head coach of the Knights. Osborne truly believes that Nebraska has the right head coach in place.

But it’s not just the on-field performance that made Osborne believe Frost is the right guy for the job. He also feels pretty strongly that Memorial Stadium will see a huge benefit from the hire, too.

During an interview with ESPN, Osborne said he thinks Frost’s return may have saved Nebraska’s sellout streak, which has stretched over 50 years.

Last year was hard for the people here because we went 4-8. I don’t think the stadium would have been sold out. We’ve been sold out for 50-plus years. I think that streak would have gone had Scott not come back, so there’s a significant renewed enthusiasm.

Nebraska has enjoyed 361 straight sellout crowds in Memorial Stadium, the longest streak in the nation.

Husker fans love their football, but suffering through another year of Mike Riley, or hiring another coach without the same allure as Frost, may have put that streak in serious jeopardy.

Fortunately, Frost is the right guy to keep faithful Nebraska fans coming to Saturday.

Nebraska opens the season on Sept. 1 against Akron in front of a packed Memorial Stadium.
