JJ Watt points to main ‘issue’ with Wisconsin after loss to Nebraska

JJ Watt turned his tremendous time at Wisconsin into a Hall of Fame-worthy professional career. The Badger and NFL great watched his former program suffer a 44-25 loss to Nebraska to drop to 5-6, putting them at risk of missing out on a bowl for the first time since 2001.

Watt reacted to the Badgers’ loss on X on Saturday night.

“Losing happens, it’s part of the game. Hearing announcers talk about how much tougher and more physical Nebraska & Iowa are while getting blown out … that’s the issue,” he wrote. “We are Wisconsin. Physicality, running game, great O-Line and great defense. That is our identity.”

Watt was part of several solid teams while in Madison, eventually playing in — and even making a touchdown catch in — the Rose Bowl during his final season with the program.

After several disappointing seasons under Paul Chryst, though, Wisconsin went in a different direction, hiring Luke Fickell from Cincinnati following his tremendous work in leading the Bearcats to both a New Year’s 6 bowl and College Football Playoff berth.

But Fickell is just 13-12 as Badgers head coach, with the team needing a win against Minnesota on the final day of the regular season to avoid their first losing campaign in nearly a quarter century.
