The fourth College Football Playoff rankings of the 2024 season were revealed on Tuesday night.

The field has expanded to 12 teams. But the top 12 teams in the rankings are not all guaranteed to make the 12-team field, thanks to the structure of the new CFP.

Throughout the season, the projected bracket has differed from the rankings.

The 2 spots are 5 automatic bids and 7 at-large bids. The 5 auto-bids go to the 5 highest-ranked conference champions. The 4 highest-ranked squads in that group receive first-round byes as seeds 1-4. A conference champion ranked outside the top 12 may steal a bid from a top-12 team.

Boise State, for example, is ranked No. 11 in the new CFP top 25. If the Broncos win the Mountain West, they are on track for a first-round bye and No. 4 seed in the Playoff. Texas and Miami also have seeds higher than their rankings.

Another team to watch right now is Arizona State. Kenny Dillingham’s squad is one of the great surprise stories of the 2024 season. ASU is now 9-2 on the season, heading into a Rivalry Week clash with Arizona on Saturday.

The Sun Devils are currently No. 16, but that’s the highest-ranked among Big 12 teams. If ASU wins the Big 12, it’s on track to be the 5th conference champion to secure a spot. Current bracket projections have Arizona State as the 12-seed.

In the newest projected bracket, No. 10 Indiana is the lowest-ranked team to secure an at-large bid as the 11-seed. That leaves Clemson as a top-12 team on the outside looking in. The No. 12 Tigers, though, have a prime chance to move up in the rankings with a matchup against No. 15 South Carolina.
