Chip Kelly has produced solid results with Ohio State’s offense all season long. However, he’s dialing up some questionable calls in The Game, and it’s put the Buckeyes in a tight contest against Michigan.

After a slow start in the first half, the Buckeyes were able to tie things up at 10-all heading into halftime. It looked like that might jumpstart the offense in the second half, but that has not occurred, even after a massive takeaway from the defense.

Will Howard has not helped things, throwing 2 interceptions, including the most recent one coming deep inside the red zone. But Caleb Downs was quick to get the ball right back with a pick of his own, leading to a questionable sequence from Kelly.

On first down from the 16-yard line, Ohio State dialed up a run right up the gut that was stuffed by Michigan’s interior. The second down play was a slow-developing pass pattern that led to heat on Howard and an incomplete pass.

Then, facing a 3rd-and-10, Ohio State ran the ball once again at the interior of Michigan’s defensive line. Mason Graham swallowed it up immediately, leading to 3 plays with a net gain of 0 yards after a massive field position for the Buckeyes.

To make matters worse, Jayden Fielding shanked a chip-shot 34-yard field goal that would have given Ohio State the lead. But many are criticizing Kelly for even being in that situation, and that feels valid.

Instead of maximizing Ohio State’s weapons on the outside, the Buckeyes have seen their ground game stuffed time and time again. Now, fans and media are wondering what exactly Kelly is trying to dial up.
