AP Top 25: B1G heads to postseason with 4 teams in top 10

AP Top 25 voters have weighed in on the top teams in college football after Championship Weekend, ahead of the College Football Playoff reveal. When it comes to the hottest topic in the college football world, media members side with Alabama over SMU.
In the latest AP Top 25, SMU falls behind Alabama following the Mustangs’ loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, their second of the 2024 season.
If the CFP selection committee were to rank the teams the same as the AP Poll, No. 11 Alabama would take the 11-seed. No. 12 SMU would be the first team out of the team, as the 12-seed would go to Clemson, one of the 5 highest-ranked conference champions. It’s important to keep in mind that the expectation is that the CFP committee will keep SMU ahead of Alabama, as betting odds strongly favor the Mustangs making the 12-team field.
Other notable changes in the AP Top 25 include Penn State sliding down from No. 3 to No. 5 with the Big Ten Championship Game loss to No. 1 Oregon. Though Ohio State was inactive, the Buckeyes moved up to No. 6 in the AP Poll. Indiana, also inactive, remained at No. 9 to give the B1G four top-10 teams.
