Lavert Hill praises former All-American Jourdan Lewis for helping him develop as leader

Michigan DB Lavert Hill is poised to do big things as a junior, but he praised the leadership of one former teammate for helping him develop as a player.

Hill is entering his third season with the Wolverines after a productive sophomore campaign in 2017. He finished last season with 24 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 interceptions, and 7 passes defended. Hill will look to build on those numbers while also serving as more of a leader in 2018, and he credited former UM All-American Jourdan Lewis for the tradition of leadership among the DB group.

Josh Newkirk with 247Sports shared Hill’s comments:

“I consider myself a leader of the secondary cause I have a little bit of experience. Just talking to them about any questions that they have,” Hill said of talking to younger players. “Just teaching them as Jourdan (Lewis) and Channing Stribling taught me. So I just carry on that tradition and just go out there like that.”

Hill went on to say that he continues to communicate regularly with Lewis and tries to follow the example he set as an All-American. He also praised Lewis for teaching him how to play corner. The two played together in 2016 during Lewis’ senior season and All-American campaign.

Now it is Hill who is set to potentially make a leap as one of the best DBs in the country. Can he help lead the Wolverines defense to a special season?
