The shift from high school football to college football isn’t easy. The athletes are bigger, stronger and faster, meaning the acclimation process can be a bit of a challenge.

Everyone is trying to improve their size, speed and talent to be the best player they can be on the field. And for offensive lineman, putting on weight plays a key role in success.

Minnesota offensive lineman Conner Olson was a player who was able to find early success at the college level, starting in all 12 games for the Gophers in 2017, his freshman campaign. Part of the reason behind his success?

Added weight.

Olson has added 60 pounds to his 6-foot-5 frame since being recruited by the Gophers, giving him that big body that an offensive lineman needs. But how can someone put on that much weight? Olson had the answer.

“A lot of chocolate milk and a lot of peanut butter sandwiches,” Olson said according to Minnesota’s official Twitter account.

Sounds delicious. Then again, eating peanut butter sandwiches and drinking chocolate milk every night would probably get pretty old after while.

Olson started in all 12 games last fall, making six appearances at center and six at right guard. He’ll be an anchor along the offensive line for Minnesota again this season.

The Gophers open the season on Thursday, Aug. 30 against New Mexico State.
