At least one analyst believes Ohio State has handled the Urban Meyer situation appropriately.

The investigation surrounding Meyer and what he knew about former assistant Zach Smith’s 2013 and 2015 arrests have been a major story around college football. The school is expected to announce its findings in the near future with Meyer still currently on administrative leave.

Many people have called out Ohio State and Meyer since the start of the investigation, but SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy believes the school has been spot on in how it handled the investigation. You can hear his comments in a clip from ESPNU Radio:

“Zach Smith is a despicable human being, I have confirmation of that,” said McElroy. “That doesn’t necessarily mean that Urban Meyer needs to be let go. Urban Meyer should have fired him a few years ago…Is that a fireable offense on Urban? No, I don’t think it is. Urban never deserved to have his job taken away immediately without getting all the facts…Ohio State’s done this the right way. I just hope Urban Meyer’s a little remorseful for keeping someone like Zach Smith around the program.”

More details are expected Wednesday on any potential punishment for Meyer, but McElroy believes Meyer should keep his job.
