WATCH: B1G’s Australian punters battle in trick shot contest

Punters are people too, and when those punters are from the great land down under, Australia, that potentially makes them super people.

Okay, so maybe they don’t have super powers, but Big Ten punters Haydon Whitehead of Indiana, Wade Lees of Maryland and Blake Hayes of Illinois put on quite a show recently on the Big Ten Network’s Twitter handle.

The BTN wondered aloud (more specifically, via tweet) whether the Australian’s accents or trick punt shots are better. You can be the judge for yourself, but there’s certainly a compelling case to be made that that the answer to that critical question can’t actually be answered.

There’s a very real chance that it’s a tie.

The accents are awesome. They make one want to go grab a plate of Bloomin’ Onions, a Foster’s lager, and throw on some old school Crocodile Dundee.

And sure, at first glance the trick kicks themselves may not seem all that difficult, but give some attention specifically to Whitehead and Lees. The angle in which they took the kick is pretty spectacular when you realize they essentially made a field goal from the back corner of the end zone. If this were David Beckham bending a soccer ball it would be one thing. But putting this kind of bend, while maintaining accuracy, on a football is quite the feat. It’s so impressive, in fact, that it makes Hayes’ shot up and off the crossbar look pedestrian.

It’s all fun and games until one of these guys get trucked by a punt return team, but for now, fun and games will do.
