Quarterback Nate Stanley is of course settled in as the team’s No. 1 signal caller and will lead an offense that will be without running backs Akrum Wadley and James Butler. Stanley may be asked to do more this season, which could of course help him grow.
It should also be noted that Stanley has two first-time starters listed to open the season at offensive tackle as Mark Kallenberger is the left tackle and Dalton Ferguson is at right tackle.
Defensively, big names like LB Josey Jewell and CB Josh Jackson must be replaced from last year’s defense, as both are now in the NFL.
The Hawkeyes’ opener against Northern Illinois is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff and the game will be televised on BTN.
