Dan Hurley outburst: UConn SID threatened reporter over viral video of head coach, per report

Dan Hurley is a 2-time title-winning coach at UConn, but he is arguably best known for his emotional outbursts and angry exchanges with officials throughout games. Even if that is just a part of his madness, a recent video of the head coach’s emotional outburst after losing to Florida has generated some interest.
Coming off the court after Sunday’s Round of 32 loss, Hurley was heard screaming multiple obscenities at Baylor’s team. “I hope they don’t f— you like they f—ed us,” yelled Hurley in the tunnel of the arena.
That video by itself is not entirely abnormal from some of Hurley’s other antics. However, the development in the aftermath of that video going viral is significant.
The video was originally obtained and shared by Joey Ellis, a reporter with Charlotte Sports Live, and he was reportedly threatened by UConn’s Director of Communications, Bobby Mullen, over that video. According to reporting from CSL, Mullen was heard by multiple individuals telling Ellis that he would “ruin his life” if Ellis did not remove the video.
Mullen has since released a statement on the manner, criticizing Ellis for being “in an area he should not have been.” Mullen also described Hurley’s screaming as “a private comment made to members of another coaching staff.
Here is the full statement:
“The lasting image of Coach Hurley leaving the court should have been his walking off the court arm-in-arm with his seniors, overwhelmed with emotion. Instead, a reporter who was in an area he should not have been recorded on his cell phone a private comment made to members of another coaching staff.”
