Danny Wolf reflects on year at Michigan as ‘the greatest in my life’

Danny Wolf was a Michigan fan as a young kid, cheering on the team for many years. He began his college career at Yale, but transferred to play for coach Dusty May this year in Ann Arbor.
The 7-footer was a part of a special season for the Wolverines. Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament title, going on an impressive run. In the NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines made it to the Sweet 16 before falling to No. 1 seed Auburn on Friday night.
After the game, Wolf reflected on his season in the program. While he was disappointed with the loss to Auburn, Wolf said this season at Michigan was the greatest year of his life.
“First of all, when I left Yale, I didn’t know what my basketball future held,” Wolf said. “I knew I wanted to be at this level. Obviously, in the back of my mind, I’d grown up a big Michigan fan and sported a ton of Michigan clothes. After their Final Fours, all I wanted for my birthday was signed basketballs.
“I have so much respect and gratitude for my coaches for allowing me to come here. It was arguably the greatest year of my life.”

This Michigan team had an outstanding first year under May, making it to the Sweet 16 and finishing tied for 2nd in the Big Ten. Last season, the Wolverines finished with an 8-24 record, which was the fewest wins the program has had since it won 7 in 1981-82.
One of the things that stood out to Wolf was how quickly this team came together and built something special.
“I made so many amazing relationships,” Wolf said. I met my brothers for life, and we had an unbelievable locker room. We stuck with each other through the ups and downs.
“It sucks to see it cut short, but yeah, this last year has been the greatest in my life. I have to thank the coaches and my teammates for that.”
While Wolf could still technically come back and be a part of the team next year, his message last night seemed to be coming from a guy who knows he is done at Michigan and headed for the NBA Draft.
