Penn State is not waiting to wrap up the 2026 recruiting class before securing a key piece for the class of 2027.
On Saturday, the Nittany Lions secured a pledge from one of the top overall players in the country. That would be 4-star athlete Khalil Taylor, an in-state product out of Seton-La Salle High School in Pittsburgh.
Taylor revealed a commitment to Penn State and James Franklin over an already long list of offers that included Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nebraska, Maryland and Kentucky, among others

Taylor is listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds and a 4-star recruit per the 247 Sports Composite. He checks in as a top-50 player nationally at No. 47 overall and the No. 3 overall prospect from Pennsylvania for the cycle.
Taylor has made plays on both sides of the ball in high school, so we’ll have to wait and see where he suits up for Penn State. He can be an explosive receiver with the ball in his hands after recording 24 total touchdowns and over 1,200 all-purpose yards as a sophomore.
While the major focus is currently on the 2026 recruiting class, Penn State has added 3 firm commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, and that trio headlines the current No. 1 class in the country. All 3 players are top-50 prospects, headlined by 4-star running back Kemon Spell.
Spell is rated as the 2nd overall player out of PA for the cycle and the 26th overall prospect nationally. We’ll see how the Nittany Lions add to that group, but it’s an impressive start for Franklin and his staff.
