Being voted as a captain of the team is an incredible honor.

To be selected as a captain is no small thing. Most captains have to be able to perform well on the field while also earning the respect of coaches and fellow teammates.

Illinois made the announcement Tuesday that three players have been voted by the team to serve as season captains for 2018. Those players are OL Nick Allegretti, LB Del’Shawn Phillips, and LB Dele Harding.

Illini Football shared the announcement with a graphic:

This will be Allegretti’s second consecutive season as a captain with the team. Phillips and Allegretti are seniors for the Illini while Harding is entering his junior season. The announcement by Illini Football also indicated that the team will select a fourth captain each week to join the three season-long captains.

Illinois will kick off the 2018 season against Kent State this Saturday at 12 pm EST.
