A former Maryland linebacker is staying in the conference to continue his academic and athletic career.

Per 247Sports, former Terrapin Nihym Anderson is leaving Maryland but will remain in the B1G East, enrolling at Rutgers. Anderson was the first player to leave the program since the reports of a “toxic” culture surfaced via ESPN.

Anderson, a freshman at Maryland, received his unconditional release from the program just a few days ago. It’s still unknown whether or not he’ll be available for the Scarlet Knights this fall.

Anderson is a New Jersey native and is the former teammate of Rutgers freshman running back Isaih Pacheco.

Rutgers opens the season on Saturday against Texas State. Maryland hosts Texas in its season opener.
