Sherrone Moore Bio

After serving as an interim head coach in 2023, Sherrone Moore officially replaced Jim Harbaugh as the new head coach at Michigan. Moore is the 21st head coach in program history, and he is the first Black head coach in program history.

Moore got his feet wet in the role during the 2023 season. He served 4 games as the acting head coach while Harbaugh served separate suspensions during Michigan’s 15-0 national championship run.

Due to Moore’s performance as the acting head coach, Harbaugh proclaimed at a press conference that he was nominating Moore for the title of “Michigan Man” and program legend. In, Moore went 8-5 but delivered a key victory against Ohio State.

Moore had long established himself as one of the top up-and-coming head coaching candidates in the country. Moore has been at Michigan in a variety of roles since 2018, including as a tight ends coach, offensive line coach and more recently as the offensive coordinator.

Moore’s transition to lead the offensive line in 2021 coincided with Michigan’s rise to power in the Big Ten. That season led the Wolverines to capture their first of 2 straight Joe Moore Awards as the top offensive line in the country, and Michigan captured the B1G Championship every year that Moore coached the offensive line.

Behind Moore’s offensive line, the Wolverines produced 3 straight seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher. Michigan also produced 2 record-setting seasons with Hassan Haskins setting the single-season rushing touchdown mark in 2021 with 20. Blake Corum would shatter that record just 2 years later with 27 during the 2023 season.

The individual awards for the offensive line also poured in during Moore’s time coaching the unit. Olusegun Oluwatimi and Zak Zinter (consensus) earned first-team All-American honors while Oluwatimi captured the Rimington Trophy and Outland Trophy in 2022. Oluwatimi is the first Wolverine to capture the Outland Trophy.

Moore produced 7 NFL Draft picks from his position groups while with the Wolverines, including 6 offensive linemen. A trio of Moore’s linemen were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft with Zak Zinter, Trevor Keegan and LaDarius Henderson hearing their names called.

During his playing days, Moore began his collegiate career at Butler County (Kansas) Community College before transferring to Oklahoma. Moore appeared in 14 games across the 2006-07 seasons with the Sooners, including 2 Big 12 Championship teams and appearing in 2 BCS bowl games.
