Michigan star Will Johnson finally had his chance to work out for NFL teams after a lengthy delay during his pre-draft process. However, some workouts were not included in Johnson’s session.
According to NFL insider Dan Brugler, scouts who attended the workout reported Johnson did not run the 40-yard dash. Johnson also delivered a 37″ vertical, a 4.33-second short shuttle and looked above average in his positional drills.
Brugler also reported that the absence of a 40-yard dash is unlikely to impact the status of the 3-year contributor for Michigan.
This past season, Johnson was hampered by a toe injury that limited him to 6 games and kept him sidelined for much of Michigan’s Big Ten portion of the schedule. After declaring for the draft, Johnson suffered a hamstring injury in February that kept him out of the NFL Combine and delayed his workout for NFL teams.
Even during his injury-shortened season, Johnson produced a pair of pick-6s for the Wolverines, including in the season opener vs. Fresno State and in the dramatic Big Ten win over USC. Johnson tied for the national lead as 1 of just 5 FBS players with multiple pick-6s last season.
For his career, Johnson finished with 9 total interceptions and 3 pick-6s, anchoring Michigan’s run to the College Football Playoff national title in 2023. Now, he’ll wait to hear where he begins his NFL career.
