Michigan is about to see its depth at defensive back get hurt in the spring with Ja’Den McBurrows planning to enter the transfer portal.

McBurrows told On3 of his plans to leave Ann Arbor on Monday, just 5 days before Saturday’s Maize and Blue Spring Game. But instead of being part of that spring game, McBurrows will reportedly be searching for greener pastures to play his football this fall.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder who played his high school ball at powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., didn’t put up the gaudy numbers he was expected to at Michigan. He totaled just 13 tackles, 1 interception and 2 passes defended during his time in Ann Arbor.

McBurrows still has time to make an impact at the collegiate level, with 2 years of eligibility left.

Michigan has reportedly been working out 6 players at the nickel position this spring, including Zeke Berry, Mason Curtis, Tevis Metcalf and Jeremiah Lowe, among others. With McBurrows reportedly leaving, the Wolverines’ cornerback depth, which was already thin, will be a little thinner.

A former 3-star prospect with lofty expectations from South Florida, McBurrows had a lot of big-time offers coming out of high school, including from Alabama and LSU. This season would have been his 5th year with the Wolverines, but apparently McBurrows is headed somewhere else to play in 2025.
