After some key departures from Penn State’s wide receiver group in the transfer portal, the Nittany Lions reportedly have a chance to land a major all-conference contributor.

According to Matt Zenitz with CBS Sports/247 Sports, Penn State will host former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena on a Friday visit. Pena had a breakout season with the Orange last season when he led the ACC with 84 catches as an all-conference selection.

Also a contributor in the punt return game, Pena finished tied for 3rd in the ACC with 9 receiving touchdowns and also added 941 receiving yards. For context, only one Penn State WR had at least 46 catches, and no one from that group had more than 5 receiving touchdowns. Tight end Tyler Warren was the team leader with 8 receiving touchdowns.

The transfer portal has been unkind to Penn State in terms of the wide receiver department in recent seasons. The Nittany Lions have lost key contributors KeAndre Lambert Smith, Omari Evans and Harrison Wallace III to outside programs, and even incoming transfers have produced lackluster results.

Dante Cephas was supposed to be a key piece for the 2023 season and he managed just 246 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns during his lone season with the program. Julian Fleming joined the Nittany Lions for the 2024 season after beginning his career at Ohio State and delivered just 176 yards on 14 catches, despite appearing in all 16 games for the team.

We’ll see if the Nittany Lions can land Pena and if he is able to turn things around in the WR department
