Penn State’s rich history on the field also extends to the NFL Draft, and the Nittany Lions again flexed their muscles on Day 1 of the draft on Thursday night with the selection of one of their own.

With the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected tight end Tyler Warren.

That rich draft history that Penn State boasts ranks among the top 10 college football programs in its ability to produce NFL Draft picks, with an astounding 389 players drafted coming into the 2025 edition in Green Bay. That impressive list included 42 first-round picks out of Happy Valley, a list that grew once again on Thursday night.

Warren joined teammate Abdul Carter as first-round picks, giving the Nittany Lions multiple first-rounders in the same draft in consecutive seasons. Carter was drafted third overall.

The Mackey Award winner was simply unstoppable during his final season in State College, catching a whopping 104 passes for 1,233 yards and 8 touchdowns while leading Penn State to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He became just the third Penn State tight end to be picked in the first round.

The 6-foot-6, 257-pounder from Mechanicsville, Virginia, was a headache for linebackers and defensive backs all season during Penn State’s magical 2024 run. He was particularly heroic, though, in the Nittany Lions’ overtime victory at USC that kept their Playoff hopes intact. That afternoon in Los Angeles, he exploded for 17 catches for 224 yards and 1 touchdown, which launched his record-breaking season.

Now, he’s headed to the NFL to try to keep punishing linebackers and defensive backs in 2025.
