The wild saga of star NFL Draft prospects receiving prank calls on the biggest night(s) of their lives has dominated the chatter this year. That included Wednesday, with the news that former Penn State star Abdul Carter also received a prank call.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter relayed that news from agent Drew Rosenhaus. The prank call for Carter came when the Jacksonville Jaguars were on the clock, one pick before the New York Giants made the official call for Carter. The Jaguars went with Colorado’s 2-way phenom, Travis Hunter.
Rosenhaus described the saga as “unfortunate,” but he also claimed he knew from the start it was not a legitimate phone call and did not even alert the family at the time:
“It’s unfortunate that these private numbers are getting to the people making the prank calls,” Rosenhaus told Schefter. “Abdul and I knew it was B.S. and didn’t even tell his family about the call.”
Carter is far from the only player to receive a prank call during the draft. He joins Penn State teammate Tyler Warren, also selected in the first round, in a growing list of players who also received draft prank calls. Mason Graham, Kyle McCord and Chase Lundt are also included, but the most prominent story included is Shedeur Sanders.
A recording of Sanders’s exchange with the perpetrator went viral on Day 2 of the draft as the quarterback continued to slide down the draft board. The NFL launched an investigation and has since fined the Atlanta Falcons and DC Jeff Ulbrich after his son, Jax, took ownership of the incident and offered up an apology.
According to Schefter, the NFL is still looking into the other calls but claims they are unrelated to the prank call made to Sanders.
