Nebraska has its quarterback for the 2027 class.
On Thursday, Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic quarterback Trae Taylor announced his commitment to the Huskers. Taylor, a 6-foot-3 passer, is one of the best prospects in his class. He picked Nebraska from a group of finalists that also included Illinois, Texas A&M, and LSU.
Taylor announced his commitment on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
In the industry-generated 247 Composite, Taylor is viewed as an elite prospect. He’s the second-ranked recruit from the state of Illinois and the third-ranked quarterback in the class. Overall, he’s a 4-star recruit who ranks 35th in the national player rankings.
As a sophomore last fall, Taylor completed 67.7% of his passes for 3,061 yards with 20 touchdowns and 7 picks. He also averaged 8.3 yards per rushing attempt and found the endzone on the ground 4 times.
Taylor had an eventful spring. According to 247Sports, he made unofficial visits to Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Texas A&M, and Auburn throughout March and April. The Huskers will have major competition over the next 2 years to hold onto his commitment.
He becomes the first recruit to publicly commit to the Huskers in the 2027 cycle. You can see his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
